Why lenses turn cloudy
Many modern headlight lenses are made from clear plastic. As their outer surface ages, sunlight and exposure to the elements can leave a milky, yellowed or lightly scratched finish.
Faded, yellowed headlights can make a car look older than it is. We help bring tired lenses back to life with careful, condition-led restoration — and help source replacements when restoration isn't the right answer.
A sharper front end. A clearer-looking lens. A little attention to detail that can make a big difference.
Cloudy headlights can make even a well-kept car look tired. A clear lens is one of those little details that can change the entire front end.
A cloudy, yellow lens can age the front end of your car even when the paintwork and wheels are spotless. Restoring surface clarity helps bring the design of the headlight back into focus and gives the car a more considered, cared-for appearance.
Headlights are designed to send light through the lens onto the road. When the outside surface becomes hazy, some of that light can be scattered or reduced. Restoring a suitable lens may help recover useful illumination, especially noticeable in low-light driving.
Not every tired-looking headlight needs a costly replacement. When the damage is on the outer surface and the unit is otherwise sound, restoration may offer a practical way to refresh what you already have.
Have you ever washed the car, stepped back, and noticed the headlights still look cloudy? That's because the problem can be in the outer lens surface rather than something you can simply wipe away.
Over time, sun exposure, weather and everyday wear can leave plastic headlight lenses looking dull or yellow. Fine surface damage and deterioration can change the way light passes through them — affecting both how the car looks and, in some cases, how effectively the lights illuminate the road.
Ask us about your headlights ↗Many modern headlight lenses are made from clear plastic. As their outer surface ages, sunlight and exposure to the elements can leave a milky, yellowed or lightly scratched finish.
A cleaner-looking lens can transform the expression of the front end. And where surface haze is interfering with light output, improving clarity may help the headlight do its job more effectively at night.
Surface oxidation isn't the same as cracks, internal fogging, damaged reflectors or an electrical fault. We'll talk through the condition before suggesting restoration or replacement.
Restoration cannot correct a faulty bulb, poor headlight alignment or damage inside a sealed lamp. If those are the problem, they need separate attention.
From faded lenses to finding the right replacement, everything starts with your car and what it actually needs.
For yellowed, oxidised or dull outer lenses, we look at the condition and discuss whether a careful surface restoration is suitable. Our aim is a cleaner finish without replacing a sound unit unnecessarily.
Request a quote ↗Need a replacement because a lamp is damaged or beyond restoration? Browse published listings by make and model, compare the details, and ask us about a particular part before ordering.
Explore the shop ↗Not every part will be listed, especially for unusual models or specific lamp versions. Tell us your make, model, year, side and any part number — we'll review your request and discuss the options.
Make a custom request ↗No confusing forms or hard sell. Tell us about your headlights, get an answer and decide what happens next.
Let us know the make, model, year and whether you'd like restoration or a replacement. For restoration, photos of both lenses help us understand the visible issue.
We'll consider what you've sent, ask any follow-up questions and talk through potential suitability, fitment or availability. You'll have an idea of the work and expected cost before deciding.
If the job is suitable, we'll discuss timing and arrangements. After restoration, we'll explain the relevant aftercare; for parts, we'll confirm details before any sale is agreed.
We want you to know what you're getting, why we're recommending it, and how to care for the result. Good service should be as clear as the headlights themselves.
Some lenses are suitable for restoration; others may be too far gone. We'll discuss the visible condition and what the process can realistically achieve rather than making promises before seeing the car.
We focus on the outer lens finish, the appearance of the pair, and the little details that make the front of a car feel properly looked after. If there's another issue affecting the light, we'll be upfront about it.
No exterior finish lasts forever. Sunlight, washing methods and general exposure all matter. After the work, we'll explain any care recommendations that apply to the finish used on your headlights.
Start with the basics. We'll take it from there.
Not always. Surface haze and yellowing may respond well, but internal damage, cracks, deteriorated coatings or moisture ingress may need a different solution. We assess each enquiry individually.
Pricing depends on lens condition, vehicle and work involved. Send us your details and we'll discuss a quote before any work is agreed.
No. Only parts that have been added to our live listings are shown in the shop. If a listing isn't there, use the sourcing request form and we'll check your enquiry.
Make, model, registration year, the headlight side and any relevant notes. For sourcing, part numbers and a photo of the original unit can also help later when we contact you.
If the outer lenses are clouded enough to scatter or reduce light, restoration may improve how effectively light passes through them. The result depends on the condition of the lamps; bulbs, electrics and alignment also matter. Headlight restoration is not a substitute for checking those issues.
On many cars, the clear plastic outer lens deteriorates after years of UV exposure, weather and ordinary wear. Washing alone usually will not remove damage that has developed in the outer surface.
There is no single lifetime for every restored lens. The condition of the original lens, any finishing treatment and exposure to sun, weather and cleaning all affect durability. We will explain the care appropriate to the method used on your car.
Condensation or water trapped inside the lamp is different from haze on the outside. Exterior lens restoration will not fix a leaking seal or internal moisture problem; let us know if you can see droplets inside.
Not necessarily. If the unit is sound and the issue is mainly on the outer surface, restoration may make sense. If it is cracked, internally damaged or mechanically faulty, we can discuss sourcing a replacement instead.
Photos help us understand the visible condition before you travel or book. Ideally send a clear picture of each headlight, taken in daylight, plus a wider picture of the front of the car.
